Colt operates a 13-country, 25,000km network that includes metropolitan area networks in 34 major European cities with direct fiber connections into 16,000 buildings and 19 Colt data centers.

Colt began in 1992 with funding from Fidelity Investments. Within a year Colt had completed 15 km of their London network, and been granted a PTO license so that Colt could offer voice and transmission services. Colt soon had their very first customer.

Colt then signed various interconnect agreements and by 1995 had completed the initial phase of the network in London’s West End. That meant Colt could compete for business amongst the vibrant media, advertising and broadcasting community located in that area.

Colt won more and more customers and by 1996 Colt was floated on the London Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ, opened for business in Frankfurt, and gained their license to operate in France. Colt's European expansion continued as they raised new capital, won many awards, and began to work in Spain, Switzerland, and deepen their presence in France and Germany.

 Colt continues to invest heavily in their ability to deliver integrated network and IT managed services. Colt has over 250 skilled experts, working across a broad range of technologies. Colt is also helping to lead industry standards and certification for cloud services.
